カイヤナイトは基本的にブルーの石ですが、グリーンやオレンジの石も産出されます。このインディゴカラーは、鉄とチタンの微妙な構成によって醸し出される色。
同じように、鉄とチタンのイオンで色を出す石のトップにはサファイアがあります。ですから、昔はブルーのカイヤナイトをサファイアと間違えられていたことも多かったのです。
名前の由来は、ギリシャ語で暗青色を意味するkyanosから。主な産出地は、アメリカやブラジル、ネパールなどです。
群青のカイヤナイトで、耳にワンポイントのシックなカラーを身に着ければ、大人の知性を感じさせてくれそうです。
