紅き光に魅了されてルビーはコランダムと呼ばれる石で、酸化アルミニウムがマグマの中で結晶になった石です。 そこにクロムイオンが入ることで赤いルビーとして誕生するのですが、ラボグロウのルビーは、地球が育ててきた過程を研究室で再現したわけです。
原材料は、天然のコランダムです。 天然コランダムを粉々にしたものを超高温で溶かし、地中のマグマの状態を再現します。そこに微量のクロムを入れて超高圧で時間をかけて冷やしつつ結晶として育てるわけです。材質は天然とまったく同じで、しかも、不純物が非常に少なく透明なルビーとして生まれてくる。小さな地球で生まれた人工的な天然石なのです。
昔からルビーは生命の火であり、寿命を延ばし病を去らせ、叡智を授け、血を浄化するなどと信じられてきました。 今でも、健康や情熱、恋のお守りとして愛でられているのです。
