Sapphire is a stone of the genus corundum, and Ruby is a representative of the same corundum.
The basic element is the same aluminum oxide. The color is determined by the addition of trace amounts of metal ions.
Ruby colored by chromium, blue sapphire by iron and titanium, and pink sapphire is colored by the same chromium as Ruby, but with a slightly lower proportion of chromium, resulting in a lighter red color.
