サファイアでポピュラーなのはブルーサファイアでしょう。こちらは、ティールという名前がついています。ティールとは、鴨の首のところにあるブルーグリーンの羽の色なんですよ。
絶妙なブルーイッシュグリーンの深みを持つお色は、宝石コレクターにも大人気。プロでも、いいティールカラーを見つけるのは難しいのです。
ところで、サファイアは「コランダム」と言って、酸化アルミニウムで構成された力強い石の一族です。ご存じの方も多いでしょうが、ルビーもコランダムです。赤いコランダムのみをルビーと呼び、他の様々な色はすべてサファイアと呼ばれるのです。
