マラヤガーネットは、1960年代に発見された、非常に新しい宝石です。ガーネット一族は、宝石学を勉強する者にとって、最高にやり甲斐があり、そして最大の難関だと言われています。
なぜって、種類の区分けがあまりに複雑で、専門家ですら名前をつけられないようなお石まであるのですよ。
じつはこのマラヤもその一種！
いわゆる普通に見られる赤いガーネットはパイロープと呼ばれる一派。同じく赤系にはアルマンディンやスペサルティンという一派があります。
マラヤはパイロープとスペサルティンの成分が混ざり合って生まれた石。
魅力はパープリッシュディープピンクのお色でしょう。
ロードライトとも違い、ピンクアメシストとも、パープルスピネルともパープルサファイアとも違う、独特で引き込まれるようなお色。
輝きがまたいい！ ガーネットはそもそも光を輝かせる屈折率が非常に高く、一部はダイヤをしのぐほどです。
