サンストーンは長石グループに属す天然石です。同じ長石族には、ムーンストーンやラブラドライト、アマゾナイトなどが知られています。
オレンジや黄色系で、石の中からきらめきを放つように見えることから、ムーンストーンに対する石としての名だといわれています。
別名はギリシャ語で太陽を意味するヘリオライト。古代ギリシャなどで、太陽神の石として崇められていたこともあるのです。宗教的・魔術的な儀式に用いられたと伝えられています。いまでも太陽のパワーを感じられるかも知れませんね。

Carnelian is a vitamin-colored orange that seems to energize. It is broadly a member of the chalcedony family, which is called the jade family, as well as onyx, tiger's eyeand other quartz crystals.
Carnelian has long been valued as a sacred stone and amulet. Carnelian necklaces have been found in Sumerian tombs dating back to 2,500 BC. Around the 10th century, it was believed that engraving sacred words on carnelian in Arabic would protect against evil plans and jealousy. Napoleon made an octagonal seal out of carnelian engraved with Arabic words.

Agate is the Japanese name for agate. Agate, like chalcedony, is a member of the quartz family. It has been valued since very ancient times as a talisman to bring wealth and good harvests.
The difference between agate and chalcedony is the presence or absence of a pattern. The one with stripes is called Agate.
Most red Agate distributed today is a stone dyed by infiltrating white Agate with an ionic solution and then heat-treated. Agate is porous, meaning that it has countless tiny holes, and when dyed, it can be dyed beautifully.
Incidentally, it is believed that this property has been known since ancient times, as stone tools and other objects have been found that have been colored and processed with Agate.

世界四大宝石と称される、ダイヤモンド・ルビー・サファイア・エメラルドの一角を担う赤の女王。ルビーは生命の火であり、寿命を延ばし病を去らせ、叡智を授け、血を浄化するなどと信じられてきました。
モース硬度9という、ダイヤモンドの次に硬い石というのは、みなさんご存知のことでしょうが、じつは、ルビーとサファイアは、どちらもコランダムと呼ばれる同じ仲間。
コランダムは酸化アルミニウムの結晶なのですが、そこにクロムイオンが入ると赤いルビーになり、チタンや鉄などが入ると青いサファイアになるのです。

正式名は、ロードクロサイト。インカローズは別名ですね。ロードクロサイトの語源は、ギリシャ語でロードがバラ、クロが色、サイトが石という意味から。そのままバラ色の石です。
